ARTIST BIO

SEEN has come a long way since the 1970s, when he started spray-painting New York City subway cars with his bright block letters. Today, the Bronx-born street art legend, born Richard “Richie” Mirando, is considered the “Godfather of Graffiti.” In the 1980s, SEEN made his first moves from the street to the gallery; he showed alongside Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat in the seminal “New York/New Wave” exhibition at MoMA PS1 in 1981. In the ensuing decades, SEEN has exhibited paintings in Paris, London, Berlin, New York, and other cities, and his work has sold for six figures on the secondary market. In addition to his bubble lettering, SEEN is also known for incorporating comic-book heroes and other cartoon characters into his compositions.
